SPRINGFIELD — The Korean American Society of Greater Kansas City (KASGKC) partnered with the Korean Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Springfield to host a free medical consultation and legal advisory event for the local Korean American community.
Medical and legal volunteers affiliated with KASGKC traveled to Springfield to meet directly with Korean residents at the partner church, offering one-on-one consultations and basic medical care in their native language.
The event was made possible through close collaboration with the Korean Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which opened its doors as the host site and helped connect Korean residents in the Springfield area with the visiting volunteers. While KASGKC volunteers provided professional services, the local church served as the bridge — bringing community members together in a familiar, trusted space.
Many Korean residents received meaningful support during the event, and organizers described the day as a deeply rewarding experience for both participants and volunteers.
The most significant impact of the outreach was clear: Korean Americans who often struggle to navigate medical visits or legal matters in English were able to receive guidance in their own language.
For many in the immigrant community, language is not just a matter of convenience. Difficulty explaining symptoms in a clinic, or articulating one's position in a legal situation, can have real consequences for health and rights. This event was designed to meet Korean residents where they are — offering comfort, understanding, and practical help in Korean.
The Korean American Society of Greater Kansas City continues to extend its service beyond the immediate Kansas City metro, reaching Korean communities across the broader region. The Springfield outreach is part of that ongoing commitment — supporting the daily lives of Korean Americans through accessible, community-driven programs.
