The Kansas City Korean Society announced that the 2nd pickleball tournament will be held in commemoration of Liberation Day. This competition, which will be held on August 9, is being held for the second time after last year, and is designed to promote healthy leisure activities and harmony in the Korean American community.
The competition will be divided into a total of 4 categories. It consists of the Adult Men's Division, the Adult Women's Division, the Senior Division, and the Youth (Junior) Division, so that all Koreans can participate regardless of age or gender. This diverse division structure seems to reflect the intention of the Korean American Association to encourage family participation and provide opportunities for communication and harmony between generations.
The tournament venue will be held at SW19 Pickleball Academy (address: 2008 W 103rd Terrace, Leawood, KS 66206) in Leawood, just like last year. The facility is equipped with a professional pickleball court and excellent facilities to provide an optimal playing environment for participants.
The entry fee is set at $40 per team and $20 per individual, and prizes and plaques will be awarded to the winners. This is interpreted as a consideration to strengthen the competitive element of the competition while minimizing the financial burden on participants.
An official from the Korean American Association said, “Pickleball is a sport that can be easily enjoyed by everyone, young and old, and is a very suitable activity for promoting the health and socialization of our Korean American community,” and “I hope this tournament, which is being held on Liberation Day, will be a significant event to further strengthen ties between Koreans.”
He also added, “Since the first competition was successfully held last year and was well received by many Koreans, I hope more people will participate this year and have a healthy time of competition and harmony.”
Tournament registration and detailed information will soon be posted on the Korean Society's official website (kckorean.org) and Facebook page. Koreans who wish to participate can check detailed information such as registration procedures and competition rules on this page.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the US in recent years, and it is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is relatively easy to learn and has a low risk of injury, so it is particularly popular among middle-aged and elderly people. This Korean American Association competition is evaluated as a meaningful attempt to create a healthy leisure culture in the Korean American community and establish a place for communication across generations by utilizing the advantages of pickleballs.
It is expected that this conference, which will be held on Liberation Day, will be a significant event contributing to the unity and health promotion of the Korean American community.
