Kansas City Korean American Community Holds Memorial Day Tribute for Korean War Veterans

In observance of this past Memorial Day, the Kansas City Korean American community held a meaningful memorial ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial located near the Tomahawk Creek Community Center. The event brought together Korean War veterans, local Korean American residents, and next-generation youth to honor the sacrifices of those who devoted themselves to the cause of freedom.

The ceremony began with the procession of the veterans, followed by a floral tribute and a moment of silence. Reflecting on the memorial's inscription, "Freedom is not free," attendees expressed their deep gratitude and respect for those who served. In particular, this multigenerational gathering served as an important opportunity to pass down the historical significance of the Korean War and the spirit of sacrifice to the next generation.

One of the attendees shared, "The freedom and peace we enjoy today are never to be taken for granted. It is our responsibility to remember those who dedicated themselves for this."

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Korean American community will host a Korean War commemorative event on June 24 at 6:00 PM at the Aspria Auditorium. Following the ceremony, a viewing party for the World Cup match between the Republic of Korea and South Africa will take place at 8:00 PM. The venue will also feature food trucks, beverages, and souvenir sales.

A suggested donation of $10 per person is encouraged, with all proceeds going to support Korean War veterans. As seating is limited, early pre-registration is highly recommended.

Going forward, the Kansas City Korean American community plans to continue hosting memorial events of this nature to honor the sacrifices of our veterans, reaffirm the meaning of the ROK–U.S. alliance, and further strengthen its ties with the local community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all veterans, and we will never forget their sacrifice.
